Rutgers Builds Solar-Powered Computing Center

Rutgers Builds Solar-Powered Computing Center Sixteen polycrystalline solar panels on top of a novel computing facility were recently installed on the roof of Rutgers?s School of Engineering Building so that researchers, Ricardo Bianchini and Thu D. Nguyen, can study how to effectively manage computing and data processing with solar-generated electricity. They will be using the system Parasol for this research because it permits ?free cooling,? that does not require energy-intensive compressors or chillers. The system also monitors temperature and energy consumption of all components, and turns off devices that are not in use. The computing facility was funded by Michael J. Pazzani, vice president for research and economic development while research grants were awarded by National Science Foundation and Google Inc. Propane Autogas Fuels School Buses in Hall County The Hall County School System was recently recognized as Georgia?s first school district to fuel their 20 Blue Bird Propane-Powered Vision school buses with propane autogas. Propane autogas has clean-burning properties, an abundant supply in the country and is cheaper compared to diesel. It costs less than $2.00 per gallon to fuel with propane autogas. Propane autogas also reduces maintenance costs and extend engine life potential due to its clean-burning properties. SPX To Provide Dry Cooling System for Natural Gas Combined Cycle Power Plant SPX Corporation will be supplying an air-cooled condenser (ACC) for a new 1.3 GW natural gas-fired, combined cycle power plant in Warren County, Virginia. This new power plant has three combustion turbines and a steam turbine to be powered solely by natural gas, making it the cleanest fossil fuel-fired facilities in the nation. This power plant owned by Dominion Virginia Power is expected to be one of the largest combined cycle power plants ever installed in the Americas that can generate enough energy to power about 325,000 homes . Xiangqi Hydropwer Unit 2 Completes Trial Run Huaneng Power International, Inc, one of China?s largest power producers, recently announced that its Hunan Yongzhou Xiangqi Hydropower Station has completed a trial run in one of its 20 MW generating unit (Unit 2). This new addition increases the company?s total controlled generation capacity from 60,375 MW to 60,395 MW, and total equity-based generation from 55,350MW to 55,370MW. Algae. Tec Commences Australian Biofuel Facility Commissioning Algae.Tec is an advanced algae to biofuels company with a high-yield enclosed algae growth and harvesting system. Recently, it has announced commissioning for its showcase biofuel facility, Shoalhaven One in Nowra Australia. The Shoalhaven One showcase facility team has the bioreactor technology and associated racks, piping, and separation tanks in place, and full testing and final validation is now underway. The Shoalhaven One initial bioreactors were assembled and shipped from The Algae Manufacturing and Development Centre in Atlanta.
