I am making one of those vibrating bugs using parts from a garden solar light. I have amended my description above thanks to a comment from legalizeshemp420 who pointed out it is an inductor I am replacing with the motor, not a resistor. Thanks again to him.
By replacing the inductor in the Solar Power LED circuit with a vibrating motor we can fabricate a vibrating bug which charges in light and vibrates in the dark, such as when a shadow goes over it.
This is NOT a Solar Popper or a BEAM bot but it is a simple hack to do for a solar experiment.
You could do further work to the circuit to alter the operation but the hack I have done seems to be the simplest and the result is fun.
Main Components
-
I used an Oral B Pulsar toothbrush as the donor of the vibrating motor.
You could also use a vibrating motor from a pager or mobile phone
Solar Panel and circuit board from a garden light.
I used a “Fence Solar Light” from a pound shop.
Main Tools
-
Tin Snips
Soldering Iron
Hot Glue Gun

Generally my projects are for my grandchildren to enjoy. OK, I enjoy them too. If anybody else likes them, that is a bonus. I like to keep my work as simple and basic as possible so that it can be copied easily and improved by anybody who wants to try themselves. I recycle or repurpose items rather than buy new and when I do buy I like to keep it cheap.
