Greenergy Star Grid Power II Review

Today we Review the GP2-400 micro grid tie inverter from “Greenergy Star”

With a rated output of 400w AC I figured it would be a good match for my two 100w panels.

First look inside shows that it only a 300w inverter (its funny how you can get an extra 100w for the spec sheet if you do your tests @ max inverter current & voltage of 27v rather then the normal operating voltage of 14 – 17v for a 12v solar system)

the best I got was 139.8w from 200w of panels under full sun with the inverter now mounted behind the panel & the tilt re adjusted to the proper 62 degrees for this area during May.

at this output the inverter fan keeps kicking in even though the unit feels fairly cool to the touch, the power output remains constant until the sun angle is more intense over one panel then wattage will start to drop a little.

at my location right now I produce between 120w & 139w from 11am to 3pm so that covers the cost of running my two fans & my laptop during most of on peak usage.
my aim will be to add 200w of panels a year + inverters to the point that I can cover half of my on peak A/C draw over the summer, next I will buy a cheap 250w GTI & see if it produces more by putting only one panel to each inverter.
