Been inspired by “Soda Can Furnace” idea for a while. This is my third attempt. This model incorporates some new design features that may or may not work.
1. No holes, no gluing or painting
2. No installation
3. 2 layers of cans, black cans on top – colour cans below.
4. Air travels between layers of cans.
5. Magnetic tape to hold and seal the perspex
Lots of cans, 7 high and at least 15 wide and two layers. Hoping the extra cans produce more heat and overcome efficiency problems through not using installation.
Logic: Not being a builder all the materials, apart from cans, I have to purchase. So I’m trying to reduce the cost of materials. Also figured that drilling holes in cans and gluing them together is a time consuming process and can be messy. Painting cans presents its own problems and I would rather avoid it.
So I want to build the greenest product I can reducing the cost of materials. I also want to build and model the easiest solution for other people. I figure that there are abundant amount of cans being thrown away and a high percentage of them are mostly black. Sorting the cans out and putting the black ones on top may be a easier build for most people. The cans will be held in place by aluminum fly screen which in itself will add a third layer of metal for air to travel through.
Thank you to Amanda my amazing friend at work who sourced most of the cans for this project.
ps. I don’t work for Pepsi, just had a lot of Pepsi cans to play with.
