I’m currently building my own solar panels to place on our roof, and I just soldered the first panel. It was a nice sunny day and for a load-test I attached my model charger on the solar panel.
In this video you see the home build solar panel charging a 3S 2000mAh Lipo at 1C charge current. This generated a load of about 25W.
The panel is made out of 24 polycrystalline photovoltaic cell of 6×6″. Each cell produces a maximum of 8A on 0.55V. The total theoretical power of this panel is about 100W, but with losses due to the glass and normal conditions it will deliver around 70W.
Total cost to build one panel is without electronics is about 70 euro’s without cable and electronics.
Now this is environmental friendly battery charging!
