This was a student run biodiesel plant that was built in Gainesville, Florida. Many students volunteered and helped build the plant. It was powered by a 5 kW solar photovoltaic system. There were anaerobic digesters that were eventually reactivated to produce biogas from campus food waste.
Used vegetable oil from around campus was used to make the biodiesel. So the frying oil came from Burger King, Wendy’s, and many of the all-you-can-eat campus eateries. The biodiesel plant had the capability of producing 1,000 gallons per week.
