An Apparatus To Reposition A Solar Mirror

If you want to reposition your solar mirror array to have a new focus / center of concentrated light energy, then you do not want to glue the mirrors/spheres into a fixed position. This idea shown in the video is one posible method to consider. If your on a tight budget, then don’t bother with making adjustable mirrors, so then just glue them in.

I have another previous video about this subject. I mentioned there you can use some kind of (cheap) velcro straps to reposition each mirror.

Gluing the mirrors into a fixed position is the cheapest method. Using 2 bolts, nuts, washers, etc, per mirror might be about a dollar per mirror. So if you have 36 mirrors, the cost of the hardware might be 36 dollars, which is not too cheap when considering I wanted the mirror array system to be as cheap as possible. I guess if you buy bulk packs of the hardware(s) it will be cheaper.

Thin and strong plywood is reccomended as the main support/backing board to hold each mirror unit of the system. If the plywood is too thick then it might cause problems accessing the semisphere. Perhaps 1/4″ thick would be good enough for the support board. The pressure board to hold the semisphere in position can probably be wood 1/4″ thick also, or metal plate; 1/16″ to 1/8″ thick. The heavier the system gets, the more need for some long bracing boards on the main support board.

Wind can cause major damage to this system if it tips over. You’ll have some choices: don’t make this system, remove it from the wind, shield the system from the wind and/or make it strong and heavy enough.
