Cardinal Laboratories is the maker of quality pet grooming products and other pet products and now its offices and factory in Azusa, California, is a 100% solar powered facility. On October 29, 2009 the switch was thrown taking the Cardinal Laboratories facility off the power grid, and the company started to harvest power from the 340 solar power panels on its roof. The Cardinal facility sits next to huge power lines, but instead of drawing power from those lines, Cardinal will be sending surplus power that it generates onto power lines for other consumers in the Azusa area. This becomes the first 100% solar powered manufacturing and distribution center in the pet products industry devoted to the production of grooming products, and its one of the first manufacturing plants in California to be powered by the sun. The companies that were involved in the project include Innovative Mechanical and Electrical, Inc. of Temecula and Siliken Renewable Energy of San Diego. I was the master of ceremonies at the ribbon cutting and the throwing of the solar switch at Cardinal.
