I couldn’t find a usb charger that takes AA batteries with ,1A power so I made one yesterday using a spare cable, some solder, and a couple 3d-printed parts I whipped up. I used mrbenbritton’s AA battery holder design for speed of assembly and small design profile (Use 4 batteries if they are 1.2V and 3 if they are 1.5V – and wire them in series (google it if you don’t know how). This will work with pretty much any USB powered device… including gs3, gs4, google glass etcBuild your own 1A+ 5V USB Charger with AA Batteries!Check your (hopefully rechargeable) AA battery voltagePrint the appropriately-sized battery holder using a customized -OR– Use the included 4xAA battery holder and simply short one of the battery slots if you are using 3xAA 1.5V batteries(2.5 double check that the dimensions will fit your USB female tip, adjust as necessary)Print the case + sliding top. I used 1 shell + 8% infill. While you wait:Wire up the battery holder as shown. I used solder.Cut up a female USB cable end, short the data lines (green and white, usually) and connect the red and black to battery holderHot glue // adhere the USB female tip into the holder.Anyone want to suggest a source for cheap solar panel + charging circuit to make this double as a AA rechargeable battery charger?More from Electronics
