In this video, we show you how to repair a cracked ATV spray tank. Most spray tanks for ATV’s are made from polyethylene. Not just ATV spray tanks, though. Most agricultural spray tanks are made from polyethylene. The reason why the agricultural plastic tanks are made of polyethylene is because nothing will react with polyethylene. Polyethylene is very stable. It is not “looking” to react with anything. Solvents don’t affect it.
Polyethylene tanks have low surface energy so liquids (and adhesives) have a difficult time “wetting out” on the surface. Putting an adhesive on polyethylene is like putting water on a freshly waxed car. The adhesive wants to “bead up” on the surface.
The only way to permanently repair the polyethylene chemical spray tanks is to weld the plastic.
