For my inverter I needed a distribution box to protect the inverter from power surge and provide 120v to different areas of the homestead. I am using 30amp breaker and a 10/2 ac line to an outlet for the rv. 10/2 means 10 gauge which handles 30amps of 120v and the 2 means there is a black/white/bare wire. if it was 10/3 it would be an additional wire for the hot line allowing you to set up duel switches in a home/application. (not using 10/3 12/3)
12/2 wire will handle 20amps of 120v while 14/2 will handle 15amps of 120v… most in homes outlets are rated at 15 amps.
