People cooking fish on a sunny white sands beach in Italy, about 900 BC, invented glass, because the fire melted sand into glass.

The next morning they found these melted sand chunks and sheets, that were translucent, beautiful, clear and sharp.

They made glass knives.

The ocean waves had washed the silicon rocks from the island, into clear white sand.
