One of the most common statements I hear from people goes something like this:
‘If I could reduce my bill by half I’d be happy’!
Funny enough it’s a statement used quite commonly by a lot of solar companies too. Most of the Electricity providers also use this very clever sales line to sell solar systems to their existing electricity clients.
What most people don’t realize is that by knowing the REAL COSTS of your power bill over time you can find out exactly if it’s going to work for you or not. Here’s the problem with the – ‘REDUCING THE BILL’ argument . . .
Let’s say you have an electricity bill of $500 per quarter and you decide to buy a system that will reduce your bill by 50%. A good quality solar system will cost you 2-3 times what you’re paying in power costs anyway, over 3 or 4 years so it’s more than the $250 per quarter you’re reducing.
The problem that most people don’t understand is that because your power bill is increasing at around 20% per year at the moment — it’s only going to take 5 or 6 years and you’ll be paying $500 a quarter again in electricity bills plus you had to outlay all the money for the solar system in the first place.
What was the point???!!!
The best thing to do is get a system that eliminates your bill and takes you out of the market place altogether. You do this by covering the money your spending and the daily kilowatts you’re using. When you do this you’re not exposed to the market increases so you don’t have to worry about the price creeping up again over the next couple of years.
In short you insulate yourself for 10-15 or 20 years to come!
The only time we get a system that doesn’t eliminate your bill is when physical constraints, like roof space, don’t allow us to put the right size system on the roof. In those cases we’d give you the biggest system necessary to eliminate as much of the bill as possible.
Remember the number one mistake people make when buying solar is they get the wrong size system — just do it right the first time and won’t have to worry.
